On May 5th, Troop 150 officially celebrated its 90th anniversary. People who attended this event got to see multiple vintage cars and a Ford Model T assembled and then driven away in less than 25 minutes! This event took place from 11 am – 2 pm, at Annandale United Methodist Church.
The 90th-anniversary celebration included a Court of Honor Ceremony. All of Troop 150’s history was displayed outside. Troop 150’s history dates all the way back to 1928, 90 years ago.
At the Court of Honor, the recently elected Senior Patrol Leader, officially welcomed his staff and PLC (Patrol Leaders Council). Three new scouts were also invested into the troop.
A demonstration campsite was also set up. Many people from troop alumni, Troop 150, AUMC, and the community attended this event.
Troop 150 would like to give a special thanks to the Men’s Club, who cooked and served hamburgers and hot dogs at lunch. Chips, water, lemonade, cookies, and cake were also provided for lunch.
Troop 150 is the oldest continuously active Boy Scout troop in Northern Virginia. Troop 150 has consistently been recognized with the Journey to Excellence Gold Award, the highest achievement awarded in Boy Scouts, and was recognized again in 2018. Below is a brief history of Boy Scout Troop 150.
In the summer of 1928, over 90 years ago, the first meeting of Troop 150 was held in the Annandale Methodist Church. This was the first Boy Scout Troop in Fairfax County. There were ten boys including Omer Hirst, Edwin & Raymond Lynch and Dudley & John Webb. The Troop’s first Scoutmaster, John W. Mercer, is buried in the church cemetery.
Troop 150 looks forward to the years to come and will forever thrive in the heart of Boy Scouting.
