Scouting For Food
The Troop participated in the annual Scouting for Food campaign. The troop distributed bags across the community with instructions to fill the bags with nonperishable food items and leave them for pickup the next week. Scouts distributed bags to 35 hundred houses. The next weekend the scouts were back; They split up in groups and collected 1021 bags and brought them to ACCA food bank in Annandale. Troop 150 brought in more food than any other unit in the Old Dominion District totaling 75 hundred pounds of food. The next closest unit fell short of Troop 150’s total by almost one ton of food! All the units contributed toward the campaign’s goal to fill local food banks for the holiday season.
Scouts enjoyed the annual Troop Lock-in this month. Scouts stayed overnight at AUMC and enjoyed an assortment of videogames, movies, and other fun activities. Scoutmaster Wood baked delicious homemade pizza for dinner that night. In addition to the fun and games, scouts stuffed and stapled 3500 bags to prepare them for scouting for food drop-off the next day.
Fall Campout
Troop 150 was back at Camp Snyder this month for a “Thanksgiving” themed campout. Each patrol prepared a few side dishes and all 36 scouts and scouters sat at one table and shared a meal together Saturday evening. Scouts feasted on turkey, mash potatoes, green bean casserole, mash potatoes, pigs in a blanket, mash potatoes, mash potatoes, and mash potatoes. In the afternoon scouts attended the “outdoor experience” expo put on by NCAC. The highlight was the cope and climb courses scouts conquered. They raced up rock walls and climbed high telephone poles tethered to each other.
New Patrol
Troop leadership determined it was necessary to create a new home patrol. The members of the patrol were taken from the two existing home patrols and the new scout patrol graduates. During the November session of the Patrol Leaders Council it was decided that the patrol will be named the “Sharks”
