Turtle Express: April 2019

April 2019 consisted of SPL elections, FCPS Spring Break, a camporee led by the Patriot District, and the final PLC of the Fall 2018 term. This month was very critical as new Scouts learned useful skills and staff credits were decided.

The first Troop event of this month was a meeting. This meeting was not an ordinary one, as important elections occurred.  The elections were for the new Troop 150 SPL, someone who will lead the Troop for the next six months. SPL is a hard job, but it can be a fun one as well.

The next week there wasn’t a meeting because FCPS Spring Break was occurring.  This gave Scouts extra time to work on Merit Badges and rank requirements!  The extra time could also be used to practice skills that they would use at April’s campout.

April’s campout was originally scheduled to take place from a Friday night to a Sunday morning, but due to 50 mph+ winds and pounding rain on Friday, it began Saturday morning.  Held at Camp Snyder, this camporee was windy yet fun.  Troop 150 were considered visitors to the camporee as it was hosted by the Patriot District. Troop 150 is from the Old Dominion District (ODD). Nevertheless, Troop 150 still won a camporee competition.

A delicious dessert of mixed-berry cobbler was cooked up in a dutch oven. This dessert won first place!

A cooking competition was not the only thing that took place.  Fun stations such as dodge-ball, rifle shooting, archery, trebuchets, wood splitting, and hatchet throwing were available. These activities helped form an amazing time.

One day after the camporee had finished, a PLC was held. At it, the new staff was announced and credits for the “old” staff was decided.  This was the last Troop event for the Fall 2018 term, and the camporee was a great treat for finishing strong.
