Turtle Express: August 2018

Troop 150 did lots of entertaining things in August. Not only did Troop 150 go on their monthly campout, but they also had a summer pool party and another Eagle Scout Project.  This month, Troop 150 went to Hershey Park and camped there for two nights!  August was yet another adventurous month for Troop 150.

To celebrate summer, Troop 150 held a pool party for Scouts and family.  It took place on August 6th, at Broyhill Crest Pool.  There was tons of food, and adult leaders grilled up some hamburgers and hotdogs.

When it was finally dark outside, Troop 150 started playing in the pool. We had the entire pool to ourselves.  Not only did Broyhill Crest have a water basketball hoop, but they also had a giant chess set.  Along with the pool, there were many opportunities for Scouts to have fun. Late into the night, Troop 150 had a game of sharks and minnows in the pool.  Eventually, it was time to go home.

On August 16th and 18th, an Eagle Scout Project was held. For day one of the project, Scouts dug two 3 1/2 feet deep holes. They then put two large poles with a whiteboard and corkboard between them into each hole. After that, they installed a small shelf and then cemented the poles into the ground. This took around four hours.

On the second day for the Eagle Scout Project, Scouts installed the roof. This was a very hard job, and it took around 6 hours.  They also created a mulch border and attached a compartment for teachers to lock markers and erasers into. The final product was a beautiful kiosk for teachers to use.  It is located at the back of Belvedere Elementary School.

A week later, Troop 150 went to Hershey Park, in Pennsylvania. They arrived Friday night and set up camp at Hershey Park’s Camping Resort.  Early the next morning, they woke up, cooked breakfast, and then took a shuttle to Hershey Park.

Troop 150 got to go into the park one hour early. Troop 150 stayed at Hershey Park way past dinner time, but it was worth it! Everybody enjoyed their time on the rides, even though some rides were very scary.

The next morning, Troop 150 went to Hershey World. They took a tour of how Hershey’s™ chocolate is made and then looked around at all the things Hershey’s Chocolate World had to offer.  It was yet another amazing experience.

After Troop 150 visited Chocolate World, Troop 150 began the long drive home to AUMC.
