Turtle Express: August 2020

Troop 150 began August 2020 with a Patrol Leaders’ Council meeting. During this meeting youth leaders planned the upcoming troop meetings, looked into new chef kits, discussed a potential fundraiser, and chose a date for the summer court of honor.

The following week, patrols planned in-person patrol meetings + hikes. After this, Troop 150 played a fun Skribbl.io with custom, Scout related words.

On the 13th, a Scout from Troop 150 led their Eagle Scout project. The project consisted of building an outdoor classroom & chapel for Peace Lutheran Church. Scouts who participated mulched, moved logs, and assembled two benches and a table.

On the 17th, Troop 150 had a special guest during our troop meeting. Mr. Meehan, who has hiked the entire Appalachian trail and much more,ย  shared his experiences and some pictures of his journey.

In patrol breakout rooms, Scouts and ASMs discussed their favorite hikes. In addition, the Troop Instructor gave a packing demo for hiking.

The following Saturday, another Eagle Scout Project occurred. The tasks for this project were to build three benches and a box. This was accomplished in a short period of time. Both of the projects were very successful and it is in hopes that the project leaders will become Eagle Scouts soon.

On August 24, patrols had a cooking competition. Since the dishes could not be tasted, they were judged mainly off of creativity, presentation, and effort.

A week later, Troop 150 had our monthly campfire. The campfire consisted of a skit, song, and story from each patrol.

Beginning the week of August 31, Troop 150 has held a virtual merit badge jamboree. The merit badges consist of music, genealogy, fire safety, Scouting heritage, mining in society, CIT community, and weather. Since many of these merit badges are not frequently earned, this was a great opportunity to do them.
