Ghost Tour
The Troop took a trip to old town Alexandria this month. The Troop learned some of the interesting history of the city and visited historic buildings. Scouts learned about the beginnings of Alexandria and visited the market square, one of the oldest full year farmers markets in Virginia. The Scouts visited the house of prominent members of the history of Alexandria and some of the earliest property owners, were thy were told eerie stories of supernatural encounters there. The tour concluded at the old apothecary and after that the scouts enjoyed a delicious pizza dinner at one of the many restaurants in old town.
Court of Honor
The quarterly Court of Honor was held this month. The scouts have worked very hard since the last court of honor, and earned 19 merit badges in total. Many other scouts advanced in rank and Michael earned his first eagle palm. Two new members were welcomed as Marco and Andrew joined Troop 150. This Court of Honor was very important because because the staff appointed by the SPL and the new Patrol Leaders were sworn into office, promising to “serve the troop to the best of their abilities”.
One of the highlights of the ceremonies is Stephen, the Troop guide, earned the Scout Spirit award. The scout spirit award is a Troop award given to the scout who best embodies the scout oath and law and Stephen was given the award rightly earned. The Troop was also presented with other Awards earned earlier this fall. Afterwards the scouts held the annual holiday gift exchange around the “Christmas Chair” for lack of a tree. The scouts and adults enjoyed refreshments to wrap up the night.
Wreath Laying
Supplied with the leftover wreaths from our holiday season fundraiser, Troop 150 participated in a wreath laying at Annandale United Methodist Church Cemetery. One of the oldest cemeteries in Annandale, some of the older graves date back to the late 18th century. Even so the cemetery is very well kept and was the site of an eagle project earlier this year. The cemetery is also where Troop 150’s first Scoutmaster is buried. On the Troops 85th Anniversary the scouts were happy to pay their respects to their first scoutmaster and others buried at the cemetery.
Adam’s Eagle Project
Adam, a 17 year old scout and the Dragons patrol leader, conducted an eagle scout project on the 22nd of December. Adam lead a group of 2 scouts replacing a split rail fence, and a stairway at Saint Albans Episcopal Church. Adam has been a member of troop 150 for 7 years and has held many leadership positions in the troop, some of which have included Patrol leader and Quartermaster. He will be aging out of Boy Scouts this August.
