In the first month of 2021, Troop 150 had one of the more important events of the year. This event was a Webelos Night, during which potential Troop 150 Scouts and their parents visit our troop. Naturally, we tried our best to have a good night!
This meeting, which took place virtually on the 25th, started with a video that highlighted some of the adventures our troop does. The video is embedded below if you are interested.
After watching the promotional, the visitors participated in an ice breaker which included sharing their favorite ice cream flavors – a troop tradition! Mint & chocolate ice cream were among the popular choices. After this, the troop separated into breakout rooms/stations.
In the breakout rooms, Scouts and potential Scouts cook s’more tacos. A live demo was conducted in order to ensure that everyone had a tasty dessert. Scouts were able to launch marshmallows with their popsicle catapults that they built either prior or after eating their presumably delicious tacos. Another awesome demo, this time on how to build the catapults, was shown.
Materials and food were provided to all of the visitors as well as to some other Scouts.
The Webelos night was the last troop event of the month, but it was not the only thing in January. This past month, we also learned and identified dangerous plants, escaped a virtual room, beefed up our first aid kits, and spiced up a trail and constructed a digging pit at Belvedere Elementary School.
The project at Belvedere was an Eagle Scout project. Having an Eagle Scout project is a requirement in order to earn Eagle Scout, the highest and most pristine rank in Boy Scouts. We all hope that the project’s leader will achieve this rank soon!
In addition to all of these activities that we did, we also had two PLCs this month. The first PLC was held on the 3rd, and it was a bit abnormal since it was held on a Saturday instead of the normal Monday. The second PLC, held on the 18th, was to prepare for the Webelos night.

An update From Philmont Crew 728-H
This month, we chose our top 6 itineraries that we would like to do at Philmont! This was a very important decision, and on Feb 20 we will all know which trek we will be doing. It will be announced when we are on our second crew day hike.
