Turtle Express: July 2020

Troop 150 started July 2020 with a patrol leader council meeting (PLC) on the sixth. If this summer had been normal, Troop 150 would have returned from Goshen Scout Reservation on the fourth.

The first troop-wide event this month was a troop meeting that took place on the 13th. During this meeting, Scouts planned their in-person patrol meetings that would occur later in the month. In addition, Scouts received a demonstration and  instructions on how to tie some of the uncommon knots. These instructions would prove useful during the Quizziz later that meeting and the knot tournament the following week.

During the in-person patrol meetings, Scouts practiced knots and played games while socially distancing + following all COVID-19 guidelines.

The second troop meeting of the month consisted of  the previously mentioned knot tournament and the public health merit badge with Dr. Palmer. The competitors came very close with one another on numerous occasions, but the Sharks patrol eventually ended up taking first place.

In the course of the meeting, the troop was able to complete the public health merit badge class. This means that there are only a few requirements to do individually and then the merit badge will be complete!

The next week, Troop 150’s monthly virtual campfire took place. During this campfire,  Scouts cooked and presented a dish their patrol had decided upon. The fun time also consisted of songs and scary stories.

The campfire was the last troop event of the month.

The virtual troop meetings keep improving and Scouts are continuing to earn requirements, merit badges, and ranks. In fact, Troop 150 gained a new Eagle Scout this month. Congratulations to Patrick, who earned the rank on July 1!
