On June 8, Troop 150 had a virtual troop meeting that consisted of a campfire demo and planning the design for a new troop shirt. Each patrol planned their own design and was given a week to complete it.
A week later, the designs were presented and voted upon by the Scouts. They will all be discussed and improved at the upcoming PLC.
The new Scouts also learned how to properly set up and put away a tent during this meeting.
On the twenty-second, Scoutmaster Emeritus Wood gave another cooking demo. This time it was on how to cook breakfast sandwiches – something that would be ideal to prepare during a campout since there aren’t many dishes and trash. You can see the recipe and the ingredients here.
Before this lesson, patrols planned a skit + story for the virtual campfire the following week.
The virtual campfire incorporated skits and stories from all patrols, in addition to a couple of songs and jokes. At the end, there was a small firework show.
Another reason that this month was special is because we had a new Scout crossover on the 14! New Scouts met and received their neckerchiefs and troop numerals. Everyone who attended was also able to enjoy some amazing Fried Oreos, maintaining the troop tradition.
To add to that, Troop 150 gained a new Eagle Scout this month. Congratulations to Ryan, who earned the rank on June 11! John, another Troop 150 Scout, earned the rank on March 10. Congrats, John!
Only around 4% of all Scouts achieve the apex of Scouting through earning the rank of Eagle Scout. John and Ryan are our troop’s most recent additions to this elite brotherhood, and are both outstanding leaders who represent Troop 150 and Scouting extremely well.
If our summer would have been normal, we would have embarked upon the highlight of our Scouting year, our annual adventure to Goshen Scout Reservation, this month. Our troop has gone to Goshen every summer since the reservation first opened in 1967, so not attending this year a historical moment for us.
If you wish, you may check out the photos and videos on our past adventures, especially Goshen.
Troop 150 is closely monitor guidelines and laws of the federal government, Commonwealth of Virginia, Fairfax County, FCPS, National Capital Area Council, BSA, and the Annandale United Methodist Church (in relation to meetings) and making changes to our plans based on guidance from these governments or organizations.
