On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, the new SPL, Cort Hollis, and his Staff were
unleashed with the task of leading the troop to success. Within the month of November the
Eagles Patrol directed the troop in a multitude of events including the Lock-In, Scouting for
Food, the Freeze O’Ree, and numerous troop meetings and a PLC meeting. The new staff was
challenged with several events in their first month but executed their jobs well. This month was
a splendid month for Troop 150, with many more enjoyable memories to come in the following
months!

The Annandale United Methodist Church Lock-In was an amusing event the troop
conducted to begin the month, and this was also the new staff’s first time managing the troop. In
this Lock-In, the troop gathered in the church on the night of Friday, November 3, 2017, for an
indoor campout and had the opportunity to interact with fellow troop members in playing multiple
games involving electronic games, board games, sports games, movies and more! Scoutmaster
Wood made many scrumptious pizzas throughout the night ensuring no Scout was hungry.
Overall this was an extremely lively event and everyone had a blast!

On the morning of Saturday, November 4, 2017, the Scouts who attended the Lock-In the previous night was treated with an exquisite breakfast formed of burritos, doughnuts, orange juice, and much more. After the first wave, most of the food had already been devoured because of how delicious it was. With other Troop and Pack 150 members trickling in, the preparation of Scouting for Food had already started. When everyone who was expected to arrive got there, the Scouts went into the annual event, where Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts went door to door distributing plastic bags with information regarding the event in which the community would leave non-perishable food items on their porch so the following weekend at 9 a.m., the boys would come and collect the food, which would later be donated to an organization to feed less fortunate families. This year the troop and pack brought back an irrational amount of food breaking last year’s previous record! So many mouths were fed and everyone was happy!

The final major event for the troop this month was the Freeze O’Ree which lasted from Saturday, November 18, 2017, to Sunday, November 19, 2017, was a gigantic success and was teeming with entertainment. On this campout, the troop put their cold-weather camping skills to the test for the fall campout located at Camp Snyder. During this “Thanksgiving” themed campout, the troop held a large feast as their dinner which consisted of many ambrosial foods, and the cold-weather Scouts had a fantastic time!
