The month of November was full of events. Members of Troop 150 participated in Scouting for Food (SFF), stayed overnight at AUMC, and attended their monthly campout. As you can probably already tell, November was yet another fun and adventurous month for Boy Scout Troop 150.
On Friday, November 2, members of Troop 150 gathered at AUMC. They planned to sleep overnight inside of the church and help prepare for SFF the next morning. As the “Lock-In” proceeded, Scouts ate delicious home-made pizza, watched movies, and played games together. Many Scouts had an amazing time.
The next morning even more Scouts came to AUMC. They planned to go to every house in their assigned neighborhood and place sticky notes on front doors requesting food for a food drive. With over 157 service hours earned that day and with lots of houses hit, Scouts went home to rest.
One week later something even more special occurred. A news reporter from WUSA9 was at AUMC. She planned to follow some of the Scouts along their routes to pick up food from the houses of kind people. Videos from this event are accessible HERE.
Over 6,360 lbs. of food was collected and delivered to two local food pantries – the Heritage House Campus and Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA). This is so vital for our community, especially during the holiday seasons. One bag of food can save a life.
The Thanksgiving Campout was a very fun event that took place at Camp Snyder. Upon arrival at Camp Snyder, Scouts set up camp at campsite #8 and then set off to do some fun activities along the lines of archery, tomahawk throwing, rock climbing, and wood carving. At 3 o’clock, Scouts returned to their campsite and began to prepare sides, desserts, and turkey that would be eaten at the Thanksgiving feast that night!

When everything was ready to be consumed, Scouts settled down to begin the feast. Sides consisted of mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, mac and cheese, and cranberry sauce. For dessert, Scouts had the options of Apple Cobbler, S’more pie, Granola Bar Crisps, and other delicious desserts. When all the dessert was gone, Scouts cleaned up the food and surrounding area and then came together for a campfire with scary ghost stories.
Early the next morning Troop 150 prepared and ate breakfast. After that, they went to see a bike race that was taking place in tons of mud. When Troop 150 had seen almost all the bikers fall over, they headed back to camp and stowed all their gear into the trailer.
