Turtle Express: November 2023

During the month of November, Scouts participated in the annual Thanksgiving campout at Camp Snyder, an AUMC Lock-in, and Scouting for Food. At the Thanksgiving campout, Scouts worked at stations, and helped out visiting Webelos from around NOVA. While Scouts were gone doing the stations, others were working on requirements, and some of the newer Scouts were practicing knots and tent pitching.

After stations, all of the Scouts came back to our campsite to start preparing our Thanksgiving meal. Each patrol decided on a side dish, and a dessert to share with the whole troop. Each patrol also had to make a turkey with the help of the Scoutmasters. When each patrol finished cooking, all of the Scouts came together and had a big Thanksgiving feast.

The next morning, Scouts woke up and made breakfast with their patrol. After eating and cleaning, the Scouts went off to do their service project. The ranger of Camp Snyder tasked us with the job of cleaning up the back of the shed. Scouts cut branches, weeds, and thorns to move out of the shed's lot. After the service project, Scouts came back to camp, and shared what they enjoyed about this campout, what they are thankful for, and to say goodbye and thank you to ASM Smits.

Next, the AUMC Lock-In. Scouts stayed inside the media room for a night. During the night, they had pizza, played some games, Watched movies and so much more.

Finally, Scouting for food. This was a two day event that was on two Saturdays. On the first day, Scouts got in cars, and they picked an area or two. In that area, Scouts went from door to door putting stickers for the upcoming food pickup. When drivers got back, Scouts were dropped off at the church, and went home. On the next Saturday, Scouts were given some donuts and some juice for the early trip. After they ate, Scouts went back to cars and went to the same area(s), and picked up the food that the families left out. After they picked them up, we brought all the food back to the church, organized it into trucks, and drove off to 2 local food pantries.
