Turtle Express: October 2019

October 2019 was a pretty laid-back month for Boy Scout Troop 150. October was a great time to work on merit-badges and enjoy life.  Just because October was less crowded with events, it most definitely didn’t make it any less memorable and fun!

Aside from normal meetings, the Troop went on a day trip to Bull Run campgrounds for a shooting sport session this month. Every Scout in attendance had the chance to master the shotgun while attempting to shoot clay pigeons that were being launched faster than 40 mph! Naturally, Scouts learned shooting tips, tricks, and rules before beginning.

While at Bull Run, Scouts had amazing opportunities to take in the beauty of their surroundings. The warm weather at the time lead to an amazing experience. Future Shooting Sports trips are much awaited!

On October 26th, one of the most significant of the entire year occurred. Troop 150 had the honor to lead the Annandale Fall Parade. The Troop has been leading this parade for many years and plans to continue this tradition for many years to come.  Behind our Troop flag and our American, Virginian, and Fairfax County flag, joyful Scouts followed. The Troop did our exotic cheer and sung thrilling songs along the way.

When the parade had finished, the Troop back-tracked their steps while collected trash along the way.  Over eight bags of trash were collected and removed from the Annandale Community. This was a great community service opportunity.

October is a very important month for Troop 150 as it sets us up for a new term.  Every six months, a new leadership term begins.  This signifies that SPL elections must occur.  The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) is the Scout in charge of making the Troop function properly – he is the head Scout. SPL elections are very important as the nominated Scout will lead the Troop until May. SPL election took place during a Troop meeting, and three candidates ran. Unfortunately, only one person can win. That winner will be the new SPL.

Troop 150 has a tough winter ahead of them, but YOU can help them through it. For the next month or so, Troop 150 will be selling 22″ noble fir wreaths for just $22.  For more information, visit wreaths.troop150va.org or contact us. Please consider supporting Troop 150 by purchasing a wreath.  Enjoy your November and Thanksgiving!
