This month, Troop 150 had our first troop-wide event since March. We also had two very exciting troop meetings that were focused on First Aid. Troop 150 also had our very own merit badge jamboree!
This merit badge jamboree spanned over an entire week, with the first class being held on September 1st. The merit badges that were offered were: Music, Scouting Heritage, Genealogy, Fire Safety, Mining in Society, Citizenship in the Community (Eagle required), and Weather. Many Scouts took advantage of these virtual classes and earned the offered badges.
September’s PLC took place on the 7th and during this PLC, we reviewed past events, planned the upcoming meetings, and discussed new cook and chef kits. In addition, we discussed the clothing fundraiser that the troop will be doing.
Our in-person court of honor was a week after, and it was at Mason District Park’s amphitheater. Earning merit badges, ranks, and other awards has been much more difficult to do virtually, but nevertheless there was still a lot earned. Over 48 merit badges,ย 13 ranks, 10 cyber chip awards (and 2 recharges), and two Scout Spirit coins were given at this Court of Honor. In addition, ten new Scouts were invested into Boy Scout Troop 150 and the ‘new’ staff were swore in!
During our first meeting of the month on the 21, our troop Guide presented a first aid slideshow that reminded us what to do in emergency scenarios. Later in the meeting, we tested our skills in a first aid jeopardy.
The following meeting, we stuck with the first aid theme and practiced responding to several emergency situations. We also played a very fun Scouting facts Kahoot. This concluded September 2020.
This month Max Van Zandt, a Troop 150 Scout, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout! The rank of Eagle does not come lightly – it requires hard work, tireless dedication, and much more. Max’s Eagle Scout project consisted of creating musical instruments for the young students at Belvedere Elementary School.
Congratulations to Max!
